Welcome to the CDXZipStream February 2014 Newsletter
Our latest geocoding template now includes country as
part of the address input information, and includes the option of
setting the default country. We've also updated CDXZipStream to
correct a compatability issue with Excel 2013, and we offer some tips
on how to minimize data requests from CDXStreamer.

New Geocoding
Template Supports Country Input
Our Microsoft
Excel geocoding template now can handle country input, and also
allows the user to select a default country when country information
is not provided with each address.
Geocoding
(getting latitude and longitude) for a list of addresses is a valuable
tool, since latitude and longitude provide a very accurate and
unambiguous description of geographic location that can be used, for
example, for subsequent routing analysis or even as input to GPS
devices. Our template uses CDXZipStream and Microsoft MapPoint
running in the background to automatically find geocoordinates for
long lists of addresses. Just copy and paste your list into the
template, and select the country of interest. The selected
country will be used if no country is present as part of an address,
and will also override the country default setting in MapPoint.
Note that the
MapPoint default country can be set by manually opening MapPoint and
performing (and saving) a successful address search; the default
country contains this address. The new features of this
template make manually setting unnecessary.
If you
use both MapPoint North America and Europe, you will still need to
identify which version to use for CDXZipStream. Please click on
the Application Settings button on the CDXZipStream commandbar and
select the appropriate version there.
All free Excel
templates can be downloaded from our Links
page, and are compatible with the free trial versions of CDXZipStream
and MapPoint. The geocoding template requires CDXZipStream
MapPoint, Basic, or Premium Demographic versions. If you would
like to upgrade to one of these versions to use the template, please
log in to your CDX Technologies account and go to the "My
Account" and "Product Management" areas to purchase an
upgraded license.

Reducing
Data Requests from CDXStreamer
CDXStreamer is
our Excel add-in designed to correct mailing address information and
streamline access to Zip+4 data. Since CDXStreamer is priced
based on the number of data requests (either monthly or as a one-time
purchase) it's important to avoid situations where data could be
lost, such as when Excel crashes or freezes.
We highly
recommend that when performing address verification for large data
sets, our clients use the "Set Array to Values" option.
This avoids Excel being overwhelmed with a large number of
CDXStreamer formulas filling a worksheet. Some other good tips:
- From the
Excel File tab, select Options, then Save to enable autosave and
autorecovery. (In older versions of Excel, this is accessed
from the Tools menu.) If Excel goes down, having these enabled
will help minimize lost data.
- To avoid
unnecessary recalculation of many CDXStreamer formulas (which can
also cause Excel to freeze), turn off automatic recalculation. You
can then choose to recalculate a worksheet or workbook when it's
convenient for you by using keyboard shortcuts. More
information on manual recalculation is provided from Microsoft here. You can also easily
remove unnecessary formulas by copying them to values.
- Make saving
your file a frequent habit by using the keyboard shortcut CTRL-S or
the Excel Save button at the top of your screen.
